About Miriam's Kitchen

Miriam’s Kitchen was founded in 1983 to meet the urgent needs of people experiencing homelessness in downtown Washington, DC. In the beginning, they served only breakfast, but soon added case management, a therapeutic art program, and started serving dinner as well.

In 2012, Miriam’s Kitchen refocused its mission from serving the homeless community to ending chronic homelessness. With their healthy meals, case management, advocacy, outreach, and housing services, they have contributed to the 19.7% decline of chronic homelessness in Washington, DC from 2012 to 2016.
