Democracy: much like an anatomically correct Mr. Potato Head, it shouldn't be available in stores. Yet after a fascist coup attempt on the U.S. Capitol and unprecedented attempts to deconstruct the rights of voters around the country, American democracy is appearing more and more like American football: the meaning completely changes with the word “American.”

Grassroots Comedy DC has seen enough, which is why we’re producing the Super Spectacular Comedy Show for Voting Rights and Racial Justice, with a portion of proceeds going towards the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law!

The Lawyers’ Committee has been on the right side of justice for more than 55 years, fighting to secure equality under the law in the areas of voting rights, criminal and economic justice, education, fair housing, and more. It also leads the Election Protection coalition, the nation’s largest non-partisan voter protection program that provides support and guidance to tens of thousands of voters every year. The Lawyers’ Committee stands on the front lines of the most pressing and complex civil rights problems. Through litigation, public education, and other advocacy tools, it addresses discrimination, advances justice, and takes defensive action when necessary to safeguard civil rights. Because much like the right to party, you’ve gotta fight for your right to vote.

And if protecting the most sacred right isn’t enough, we also have a spectacular lineup of some of the Mid-Atlantic’s best jokesters! Including Robert Mac (Dry Bar Comedy, Last Comic Standing), Haywood Turnipseed Jr. (Attack of the Comics, Bentzen Ball), Jani Tillery (BLK Prime) Sahib Singh (Kennedy Center), and Yasmin Elhady (Yasguru). Hosted by Grassroots Comedy DC’s Chris Blackwood and Sofia Javed (Lady Laughs Comedy Festival)!

If you don’t support voting rights, feel free to stay home, or hold a fake election and make yourself the president to feel special. If you DO support voting rights, grab a friend or five and come laugh with us!
